Multiple Teams · Davis’ Walk-off Lifts Cardinals Over Indians, 5-4


On Tuesday night, the Varsity Cardinals trailed 3-0 to Montgomery County heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cards managed just 3 hits prior to the sixth inning rally that brought 4 players across the dish to take the lead, 4-3. Dakota Puckett led off the sixth inning with a walk. Jax Davis singled to center. Cameron Dove walked to load the bases. The Indians made a pitching change. Jake Ware walked – scoring Puckett. Will Marsillett came into the game to run for Ware. Caden Easterling walked – scoring Davis. Chase English came into the game to run for Easterling. The next Cardinal batter grounded back to the pitcher. However, the Indians pulled off a 1-2-3 double play. With two outs and runners at second and third, Brady Crowe’s huge single to left scored Marsillett and English.

Unfortunately, Montgomery County tied the game in the top of the seventh behind a pair of doubles. With one out and the score tied at 4 in the bottom of the seventh, Dakota Puckett singled to left-center. Jax Davis hit a 3-1 pitch to deep right-center. Puckett raced around the bases and dove into home with the winning run.

Jake Ware (#13) started for the Cardinals. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings. He struckout 6 and walked 3. He had 2 HBPs. He gave up 5 hits and 3 runs; however, only 2 of the runs were earned runs.

Alex Back (#15) pitched 1 and 1/3 innings. He struckout 3 and walked none. He had 1 HBP. He gave up 2 hits and 1 earned run.

Individual statistics for the Cardinals were as follows:

Jax Davis (#3) was 2-for-4 with a double and single. He scored once and had the game-winning RBI.
Cameron Dove (#8) walked once.
Jake Ware (#13) was 1-for-2 with a single. He had 1 RBI and a walk.
Will Marsillett (#14) scored once.
Caden Easterling (#2) was 1-for-2 with a single. He had 1 RBI and a walk.
Chase English (#6) scored once.
Brady Crowe (#10) was 1-for-3 with a single. He had 2 RBIs.
Brady Turner (#1) was 1-for-3 with a single.
Dakota Puckett (#12) was 1-for-1 with a single. He scored twice and walked twice.

With the win over Montgomery County, the Cardinals claim the #1 seed in the upcoming 40th District Tournament. The Cardinals will play Montgomery County in the 40th District Semifinal.

The Varsity Cardinals (15-7, 4-2) will play Pendleton County in the Mason County Wooden Bat Tournament on Friday, May 12 at 6PM.
