The Varsity Cardinals celebrated Senior Day at Cardinal Field on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, Anderson County spoiled the festivities by defeating the Cardinals, 4-3.
Ben Barrett (#4) pitched a good game for the Cards. He pitched 4 innings (plus to 3 batters in the fifth inning). He struckout 3 and walked none. He gave up 6 hits and 3 runs – only 1 of which was earned.
Jax Davis (#3) pitched 2 innings. He struckout 3 and walked 2. He gave up 2 hits and 1 earned run.
Caden Easterling (#2) pitched 1/3 of an inning. He struckout 1 and walked 2. He gave up no hits and no runs.
Bo Billings (#21) pitched 2/3 of an inning. He gave up no hits and no runs.
The Cards scored in the bottom of the 4th inning following an infield hit and subsequent throwing error by the second baseman on Cameron Dove’s 2-1 pitch. Jake Ware followed with a double off the fence in center – scoring Dove. The following inning, Anderson County scored 4 runs to take what turned out to be an insurmountable lead in the game at 4-1.
The Cards rallied in the sixth inning. Jax Davis hit a double. Cameron Dove walked. Jake Ware singled to left to load the bases. Bo Billings hit a double down the right field line – scoring Davis and Dove. With runners on first and third with nobody out, the Cards trailed by only a run, 4-3. As fate would have it, the Cards rally stalled due to a base-running pick-off, a strikeout and groundout that ended the sixth inning.
Individual statistics for the Cards were as follows:
Cameron Dove (#8) was 1-for-1 with a single. He scored twice and walked once.
Jake Ware (#13) was 2-for-2 with a double and single. He had 1 RBI.

JJ Johnson (#32) was 1-for-3 with a single.

The Varsity Cardinals (14-7, 3-2) host Montgomery County on Tuesday, May 9 at 5:30PM at Cardinal Field. The JV game will follow at 7:30PM.
Here are the current 40th District standings:
Bourbon County (3-2)
Montgomery County (1-4)
40th District tournament scenarios are as follows:
If GRC defeats Montgomery County, then GRC is the number 1 seed and will play Montgomery County in the 40th District Semifinal. This is because the Cards split head-to-head with Paris and Bourbon County. Therefore, the next tiebreaker is fewer runs allowed which the Cards hold against both Paris and Bourbon County.
If Montgomery County defeats GRC, then the winner of the Bourbon County at Paris game on Wednesday, May 10 will be the number 1 seed. That team will play Montgomery County in the 40th District Semifinal. GRC would play the loser of the Bourbon County at Paris game in the other 40th District Semifinal. GRC would be the home team due to having won the tiebreaker against either Bourbon County or Paris for fewer runs allowed.
